For students and parents
Who is Talent East Academy for?
For secondary school students in and around Enschede, from the first year to the exam year and at any level. Many of our students are newcomers or have parents who are, but our door is open to anyone who wants to grow.
What does it cost?
We discuss that at the intake meeting. The contribution depends on your situation and on the programme; money must never be the reason not to take part. For some outings a small contribution may be asked; you always hear that in advance.
When and where are the lessons?
Study days are on Sundays from 10:00 to 15:00 at Wijkcentrum ’t Ni-je Terphoes, Noordhollandstraat 4 in Enschede. Throughout the year there are also outings and other activities, and new programmes start; we announce those on the news page.
Which subjects can I take?
Maths, physics, chemistry and biology at lower and upper secondary level, plus Dutch (NT2) and English. For other subjects we help you with planning and self-study.
How do I sign up?
Through the form on the Get involved page; pick ‘student’ there. We get in touch within a week for a short introduction. If you are under 16, we ask a parent or guardian to be there.
Do I have to come every week?
For the study days it works best if you come regularly: you get a regular tutor and a regular group. Can't make it once? Just let us know.
My Dutch isn't good yet. Can I still join?
Yes. Many of our tutors started as newcomers themselves and speak several languages. For Dutch we have an NT2 teacher, and maths makes sense in any language.
Are photos taken?
Sometimes, for our website and social media. We only publish recognisable photos of students with written consent — for students under 16, from a parent or guardian. You can always say no.
For volunteers
Do I need to be a teacher?
No. Our volunteers are students, professionals and (former) teachers. What counts is that you understand your subject, have patience and enjoy explaining things. The lesson coordinator shows you the ropes.
How much time does it take?
A Sunday, or part of one, at a regular frequency we agree together. The exact time commitment per role is settled at the introduction.
Do I need a VOG (certificate of conduct)?
Because we work with minors, we ask volunteers for a Dutch certificate of conduct (VOG).
Do I get paid?
Volunteers work unpaid; under conditions a volunteer allowance or expense reimbursement is possible. Board members receive no remuneration.
For donors and partners
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Once our ANBI status is confirmed, a gift is deductible from Dutch income tax under conditions. We keep the current status on the ANBI page.
Where does my money go?
To classrooms, materials, exam books and the outings that keep the group together. Board members receive no remuneration; the annual accounts are on the ANBI page.
Can my organisation become a partner?
Gladly. Space, materials, guest lessons or funding: the partner page lists the options and has a form.
